An introduction to our SENCo
My name is Miss Joanne Moss and I have been the SENCO at Montgomerie Primary School since September 2017, which is when I started here.
I have been teaching now for 25 years, qualifying in 2000 and have been fortunate to have taught in three local primary schools. All of the schools that I have worked in have been small primary schools of which I have thoroughly enjoyed as they all give a close, community spirit.
My path leading to teaching has always been related to children, first starting with my BTEC in nursery nursing (caring services) and then achieving an HND and degree in Early Childhood Studies. That finally led me to a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.
I achieved the National Award for Special Educational Need Coordination (NASENCO) in 2014 but started the journey of becoming a SENCO the year before. My role in school includes overseeing and coordinating support and provision for children with special educational needs. I also work and liaise with parents, other staff and external professionals to ensure students with SEND receive appropriate support in order to reach their full potential.
In school I feel we work hard to try and develop effective ways of overcoming barriers to a child’s learning and work collaboratively to support their confidence and independence. It is always lovely to see children happy, having fun and achieving goals.
My friends and family would describe me as determined, organised, thoughtful and a bit bossy.
When I’m not working I like walking, travelling, catching up with friends and I regularly go to the gym.
